Ferjani Sassi to Monaco? Scouts in Monastir Fuel Transfer Speculation
Tunisia – October 2014
After scoring the decisive goal that gave Tunisia a 1–0 win over Senegal on Matchday 4 of the 2015 AFCON qualifiers, Ferjani Sassi is now attracting serious interest from abroad — most notably from AS Monaco.
The Club Sportif Sfaxien (CSS) midfielder has long been regarded as one of the brightest talents in Tunisian football, but his performance against the Lions of Teranga appears to have elevated him onto the radar of top European clubs. Sources confirmed that Monaco scouts were in attendance at the Monastir stadium to watch both Ferjani Sassi and his teammate Fakhreddine Ben Youssef.
While transfer rumors had previously linked Sassi to Espérance de Tunis, his father quickly put those to rest:
“As long as Ferjani plays in Tunisia, it will only be for CSS,” he said, firmly denying any domestic move.
Monaco’s Midfield Strategy
For Monaco, a move for Sassi would align with their strategy of acquiring young, technically sound players who can grow within the club or be sold at a later profit. The Ligue 1 side, under Leonardo Jardim, has already added depth in midfield but may see Sassi as a low-cost, high-upside option, especially given his composure and maturity in key international fixtures.
What’s Next?
With Sassi’s stock rising after his match-winning performance, January 2015 could be a crucial window. If Monaco—or any other European club—makes an official offer, CSS may find it difficult to retain their midfield engine for much longer.
For now, Sassi remains focused on helping Tunisia secure qualification for the 2015 AFCON and pushing CSS forward domestically. But European football could be just around the corner.
