Burkina Faso Welcomes Back Pitroipa and Koné for Crucial Gabon Rematch
After falling 2-0 to Gabon in Libreville last Saturday, Burkina Faso will look to bounce back on Wednesday in Ouagadougou with reinforcements in tow. The Stallions were without two of their key players—Jonathan Pitroipa and Djakaridja Koné—in the first leg, but both are now available for the crucial return match in the 2015 AFCON qualifiers.
Pitroipa, although on the squad list in Libreville, was rested, while Koné missed the match entirely. However, both have since resumed full training following the team’s return to Burkina Faso, providing a timely boost for coach Paul Put.
Despite the setback in Matchday 3, Burkina Faso remains very much in the qualification race. A win in front of their home crowd at the 4-Août Stadium would not only avenge their defeat but also reassert their position as contenders for a spot at AFCON 2015 in Morocco.
With Pitroipa’s attacking creativity and Koné’s midfield stability back in the lineup, the Stallions will aim to capitalize on home advantage and reignite their campaign.
