Jose Riveiro makes bold call for Hamdy Fathy deal
Jose Riveiro has urged Al Ahly to make Hamdy Fathy a permanent part of his squad following the midfielder’s impressive return during the Club World Cup preparations.
Fathi, who is currently on a short-term loan from Qatari side Al-Wakra, rejoined his former club to help them during the month-long tournament, which kicks off this Sunday with a clash against Inter Miami.
According to a source who spoke with Kooora, Riveiro met with Al Ahly’s sporting director, Mohamed Youssef, during their training camp in Miami. In their meeting, the Spanish coach requested either a full transfer or a season-long loan for Fathi.
Youssef promised to pass the message on to club president Mahmoud Al-Khatib, though admitted that Al-Wakra’s firm stance on keeping the player could make a deal difficult.
The source added that Riveiro plans to hold another meeting with the club’s leadership upon his return to discuss transfer targets and squad needs for the next season.
Al Ahly continue their preparations as they gear up for Sunday’s Club World Cup opener.
