Wattara Amadou Joins Race for FTF Presidency, Vows to Clean Up Togolese Football

The race to succeed Ameyi Gabriel as president of the Togolese Football Federation (FTF) has officially added a fourth contender: Wattara Amadou. The announcement came during a press conference held Friday in Lomé, where Amadou outlined a bold, reform-driven vision for restoring credibility to Togolese football.

Currently serving as president of Sara Sport de Bafilo and second vice-president of Agaza Omnisport de Lomé, Amadou joins Kossi Adjodo, Tino Adjeté, and Mathieu Mablé as official candidates. He leads the “Transparency” list—an apt name for a campaign grounded in confronting systemic issues in the FTF.

“The king of sports in the land of Dr. Kaolo is dying and is dying continuously: an amateur and especially irregular championship, a national team undermined by cronyism, approximation and opacity in management. Financial embezzlement is the rule,” said Amadou, calling out mismanagement that has led FIFA to place the FTF under financial supervision.

As part of his action plan, Amadou promises to:

  • Train referees, coaches, and club officials to raise professionalism.

  • Introduce transparent administrative practices to curb mismanagement.

  • Eliminate improvisation and amateurism within league and federation operations.

With a direct tone and an emphasis on structural reform, Amadou positions himself as a change agent, ready to “finally see the light at the end of the tunnel” for Togolese football. His candidacy adds weight to what is shaping up to be a pivotal FTF election.
