Monaco: Abdennour Returns to Team Training

Monaco Receive Defensive Boost as Aymen Abdennour Returns to Training

AS Monaco have been handed a timely lift with the return of Tunisian defender Aymen Abdennour to full training, the club confirmed on Sunday.

Abdennour, 25, had been sidelined for four weeks with a hamstring injury but was back on the pitch this weekend, much to the relief of coach Leonardo Jardim. His return comes at a crucial time, with veteran centre-back Ricardo Carvalho having picked up an injury during Monaco’s 1-0 Ligue 1 defeat to local rivals Nice.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Abdennour expressed his satisfaction at being back in action and confirmed he is ready to contribute immediately.

“I’ve been working hard physically for over ten days now, focusing on strengthening my hamstrings,” said the former Toulouse man. “I’m 100% fit and ready to rejoin the squad to help the team. I really missed the pitch.”

The Tunisian international’s return will be seen as a key reinforcement for Monaco’s back line, which has struggled for consistency in recent matches. Known for his strength, aerial presence, and tenacious defending, Abdennour was a standout performer last season and had been sorely missed during his spell on the sidelines.

With Monaco balancing their domestic campaign and European fixtures, squad depth will be essential in the coming weeks. Abdennour’s comeback not only provides defensive stability but also offers Jardim more tactical flexibility as the club looks to regain momentum in Ligue 1.

Monaco currently sit in the middle of the table and are aiming to climb the standings after a mixed start to the season. Abdennour’s return could prove pivotal as they seek to close the gap on the league’s early front-runners.
