Ghana successfully overcame the challenges in the return match of the second round of qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations in the junior football category, set to take place in Algeria in 2013. The Black Satellites managed to overturn their first-leg deficit against Uganda by securing a convincing 3-0 victory at home, following a 3-1 loss in the initial encounter.
Despite being considered a powerhouse in youth football, the first-leg defeat had left Ghana seemingly unlikely to qualify. The return match proved to be a tough and laborious battle for the Black Satellites against determined Ugandans who played defensively to protect their lead from the Kampala leg.
However, Ghana displayed resilience and determination, utilizing a combination of short passes and long diagonal balls to secure their place in the third and final round of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The scorers for Ghana in this crucial match were Moses Odjer, Ebenezer Assafuah, and Emmanuel Gyamfi.
Looking ahead, Ghana is set to face Morocco in the next round, with the Cherifians under 20 having secured a victory against Gambia. The upcoming matches are scheduled to take place in Morocco on the weekend of September 21 to 23, and the return match is set for October 5, 6, and 7, 2012. It’s noteworthy that seven teams, in addition to Algeria as the host country, will qualify for the final phase of the tournament next year.
