Qatari newspaper Al-Watan has revealed that Ahmed Abdelkader, a player from Al-Ahly, is on the verge of joining the ranks of Al-Wakrah this January.
The newspaper reported that Ahmed Abdelkader is close to making a temporary move to Al-Wakrah until the end of the season during the current winter transfer window.
Al-Ahly has reportedly agreed to Abdelkader’s departure to Al-Wakrah, following a meeting between the head coach, Marcel Koller, and the planning committee of the club.
If Abdelkader joins Al-Wakrah, he will team up with Hamdi Fathi, who joined the Qatari team at the beginning of the current season from Al-Ahly.
Abdelkader spent the 2020/2021 season on loan from Al-Ahly to Smouha under the management of Ahmed Samy.
During his time with Smouha, Abdelkader participated in 27 matches, managing to score nine goals and provide five assists.
Abdelkader was excluded from the squad that played in the FIFA Club World Cup for tactical reasons.
Additionally, he did not participate in Al-Ahly’s team in the Egyptian Super Cup for Champions.
Facing limited opportunities this season due to tactical differences with Swiss head coach Marcel Koller, Abdelkader has played a total of 248 minutes with Al-Ahly in all competitions this season, scoring one goal and assisting two.
The potential move to Al-Wakrah presents a new chapter for Ahmed Abdelkader, providing him with the opportunity to contribute to the Qatari team’s aspirations and further showcase his talent on the international stage.
