South African outfit Mamelodi Sundowns is expected to embark on a major squad overhaul ahead of the new campaign.
Following an extremely successful season, head coach Miguel Cardoso is collaborating with management to revamp the team for the 2025/25 season.
The current South African champions are expected to make significant changes in order to preserve their domestic supremacy and continental aspirations after winning the Betway Premiership and making it to the CAF Champions League final.
Among the players departing the club are Lucas Suarez, midfielder Kobamelo Kodisang, and defender Terrence Mashego.
The Argentine defender, Lucas Suarez, who joined the club in January on loan from CA Talleres, will be the first confirmed departure.
Despite a purchase option in the deal, Sundowns have opted against keeping him permanently, and Suarez is now expected to return to Argentina.
Another exit appears inevitable as midfielder Kobamelo Kodisang is set to leave the club. According to The Citizen, off-the-field issues have isolated him from the squad in recent months.
Despite attempts to settle internal issues in private, Kodisang, who was originally seen to be a promising recruit, has not been included in recent matchday squads, and the club has apparently run out of patience.
With departures already underway, new signings are expected to follow shortly. According to reports, Cardoso has already sent Sundown’s management a wish list with the goal of acquiring players with young enthusiasm and a continental background.
Early squad reorganization is a sign of the club’s proactive approach. Sundowns is constructing with depth, discipline, and global aspirations in mind as the CAF Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup approach.
The Tshwane giants are expected to have a busy transfer season, both in terms of notable signings and departures.
