Wolverhampton Wanderers tracking Ivorian midfielder Mory Gbané amid Reims rebuild

Wolverhampton Wanderers have set their sights on Ivorian international Mory Gbané, with the Premier League side keeping close tabs on the midfielder following his impressive campaign with Stade de Reims.

Despite Reims’ relegation from Ligue 1 at the end of the season, Gbané’s individual performances have stood out, earning him attention from clubs beyond French borders.

According to reports from 225foot, Wolves are seriously monitoring the 24-year-old as they assess potential reinforcements in midfield ahead of the summer transfer window.

Gbané, whose current contract with Reims runs until 2029, joined the French club in February and quickly established himself as a key figure in the squad.

Since his arrival, he has featured in 19 matches across all competitions, demonstrating consistency, tactical awareness, and physical presence in the heart of midfield—attributes believed to align well with the demands of English football.

With a market value estimated at €4 million by Transfermarkt, Gbané presents a relatively affordable option for Premier League clubs, though any deal is expected to be far from straightforward.

Reims are reluctant to part with one of their standout performers, particularly as they begin preparations for life in Ligue 2. Club officials reportedly view Gbané as central to their rebuilding project and consider his departure a low priority at this stage.

Wolverhampton, however, remain interested. Internal discussions are understood to be underway as the club explores the viability of a potential transfer.

While no formal bid has been made, sources suggest Wolves see Gbané’s blend of power, endurance, and disciplined positioning as a good fit for their system, particularly under the rigours of the Premier League.

The Midlands club is believed to be conducting a thorough assessment of the player’s situation, weighing up the potential benefits of an early move against the complexities of negotiating with a club determined to retain one of its core assets.

Gbané’s long-term contract further strengthens Reims’ position, leaving them in no immediate financial pressure to sell.

Whether Wolverhampton will proceed with a concrete offer remains uncertain, but the situation is being closely watched. Much will depend on how negotiations unfold in the coming weeks, particularly as Reims finalise their strategy for the summer and Gbané’s representatives evaluate his career trajectory.

The Ivorian’s rise in prominence since his switch to French football has not gone unnoticed. Having recently broken into the national team setup, his growing reputation could see additional interest emerge if Wolves do not act swiftly.

For now, the Premier League side are biding their time, aware that landing the midfielder will require patience and possibly persistence.

As the summer window nears, Gbané’s future remains an open question—one that could yet see the dynamic midfielder make the leap from a relegated Ligue 1 outfit to one of England’s top-flight clubs.
