The Fez Sports Complex has undergone a comprehensive transformation, emerging as one of Africa’s premier sporting venues ahead of Friday’s international friendly between Morocco and Tunisia.
Upgraded to meet rigorous international specifications, the stadium now exemplifies cutting-edge infrastructure, capable of hosting world-class events in football and athletics.
The revamped stadium, located in the historic city of Fez, can now welcome up to 35,000 spectators.
According to SONARGES, Morocco’s National Society for the Construction and Management of Sports Equipment, the facility meets international standards across every dimension, from pitch quality to security protocols.
At the heart of the complex is a natural grass main pitch, complemented by three additional natural grass training fields.
These provide elite-level conditions for both match play and team preparations.
The site spans 32 hectares and includes an eight-lane tartan athletics track, certified for international competition, further cementing its multi-disciplinary role.
VIP guests are catered for with 12 high-spec skyboxes, divided between VVIP and VIP sections, alongside three dedicated reception lounges.
These areas align with the protocol demands of high-level international events, offering comfort and exclusivity.
Media professionals covering events at the complex benefit from a dedicated press gallery featuring 216 individual desks, each fitted with personal screens.
The press infrastructure also includes a conference hall and three private meeting rooms, ensuring smooth operations and professional standards for broadcasters and journalists alike.
In terms of audiovisual capability, the complex is outfitted with a state-of-the-art lighting system that aligns with FIFA Standard B requirements.
The training pitches boast FIFA Grade 1 lighting, allowing for high-quality night matches and television coverage.
Fans in the stands are treated to dynamic visuals via two large display boards and a continuous LED perimeter screen, enhancing the spectator experience.
Security has also been meticulously addressed.
The stadium includes 60 access control stations, 46 standard turnstiles, three adapted for persons with reduced mobility, and 11 express lanes to streamline entry and exit.
A sophisticated surveillance network—consisting of 520 security cameras monitored from a central control room—ensures safety throughout the venue.
To handle logistical demands, the site includes 1,570 car parking spaces and 154 bus bays.
Power reliability is ensured through high-capacity transformers, backed by generators and inverters, providing uninterrupted electricity during major events.
Additional facilities include four international-standard locker rooms, six refreshment areas, and three ticketing booths.
These amenities support both player preparation and audience convenience, delivering a seamless experience on matchday.
The newly refurbished Fez Sports Complex stands as a beacon of Morocco’s sporting ambition—a modern, multi-functional venue ready to host continental and international competitions with distinction.
