Zamalek seek redemption as Pyramids eye double victory in Cup final
Zamalek will look to turn their season around when they face a high-flying Pyramids FC in the Egyptian Cup final on Thursday night at Cairo International Stadium.
The clash is more than just a shot at silverware, it’s a battle between two managers on different paths.
Pyramids coach Krunoslav Jurcic enters the final brimming with confidence after guiding his side to a historic CAF Champions League triumph over Mamelodi Sundowns. With silverware already in hand, Jurcic is aiming for a domestic double.
Zamalek, however, have had a season to forget, finishing third in the league and crashing out of both the Confederation and Capital Cups. Head coach Ayman El-Ramady hopes lifting the Egyptian Cup can rescue their campaign.
But history doesn’t favour El-Ramady. He has faced Jurcic three times and has yet to win. Their past duels, whether in the league or cup, have all tilted in the Croatian’s favour.
In total, El-Ramady has clashed with Pyramids seven times, managing just one win and suffering six defeats.
A win now would change the story, and maybe the season.
