Abdelaziz Barrada Explains Move to UAE Before Return to Marseille
After two solid seasons with Getafe in Spain, Moroccan midfielder Abdelaziz Barrada made a surprising move to the United Arab Emirates last summer. Now back with Olympique de Marseille, Barrada has opened up about his reasons for choosing the Gulf region over staying in Europe.
“I had just completed two full seasons at Getafe,” Barrada said. “My president turned down many offers because he was asking for a high price. So I thought, why not discover something new, especially the culture in the Emirates? And I won’t lie, the financial offer was very good.”
He acknowledged the differences in competition level: “The Emirates league isn’t La Liga or Ligue 1, that’s for sure. But I had a good season and the experience was valuable.”
Now focused on his return to Europe, Barrada expressed his enthusiasm for rejoining Marseille. “I’m very happy to be back at OM and ready to work hard.”
