Leicester City Manager Enzo Maresca is deeply concerned about Ghana youth star Abdul Fatawu Issahaku and waiting patiently in the coming weeks with regard to his presence.
The teenage sensation has been included in Ghana’s 55-man preliminary squad ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
With Kelechi Iheanacho, Winfred Ndidi called up for Nigeria, Patson Daka in Zambia squad, and only Issahaku’s situation remains unset.
Black Stars coach Chris Hughton will announce his final squad for the AFCON tournament on Monday morning during a press conference.
Apart from the three Africans already named in their country’s final squads, defender Harry Soutar will also be away with Australia for the Asian Cup of Nations, taking place in Qatar.
As of Friday, Maresca was not aware how many of his African players would be available against Huddersfield on New Year’s day.
Typically, the AFCON players are available on New Year’s Day matches, but then join with their nations.
“We are still waiting for the federations answer. We will see if we can have them available for the next game,” Maresca said.
Issahaku has been impressive for Leicester in the English Championship this season with two goals and 7 assists to his credit after 21 appearances.
