In a statement, he emphasized, “Algeria are favorites to finish at the head of our group. Our goal is to make it through the first round.”
Goncalves, expressing optimism despite the tough competition, views the opening match against Algeria as an advantageous start to Angola’s AFCON campaign.
He notes, “Facing Algeria in the first match is a good thing. The Fennecs are favorites for final victory with Morocco, Senegal, and Egypt.”
In response to Goncalves’ acknowledgment, Algeria’s coach Djamel Belmadi, during a press conference, spoke cautiously about the Angolan team, recognizing the challenges they bring to the pitch.
Belmadi stated, “The first of the African Cup is always difficult, but we will be ready… Angola is a team which concedes few goals, but which also does not score many. We have analyzed them well, and it will not be easy.”
