Ghana Begin U-20 Women’s World Cup Campaign with Win Over Hosts Canada
Ghana’s Black Princesses made a strong start at the U-20 Women’s World Cup in Canada, securing a 1-0 victory over the tournament hosts. The win was warmly praised by Ghana coach Bashir Hayford, who described the match as “very good” and said he enjoyed every moment.
Speaking to FIFA’s official website, Hayford said, “At the end of the match, I think the best team won. The first lesson of this tournament is that nothing will be easy in the World Cup. I hope it will be taken into account in the next matches.”
The coach also stressed the team’s ambition, adding, “I said we came to win the World Cup. I don’t know yet if we will succeed, but I see some signs. We are not here to have fun, we are here to win.”
Ghana’s next group game will be against North Korea on August 8, after the Asian side overcame Finland 2-1.
