Hatem Ben Arfa’s Newcastle Future in Doubt Amid Professionalism Concerns
Hatem Ben Arfa’s future at Newcastle United remains uncertain as he continues to be excluded from the first team since the start of the club’s preseason.
The French winger, who joined Newcastle in August 2010 from Olympique de Marseille, has reportedly struggled with issues relating to professionalism and commitment, according to manager Alan Pardew.
Speaking publicly for the first time about Ben Arfa’s situation, Pardew emphasised the importance of dedication to the team’s standards. “It’s a simple situation. We have a level of professionalism and commitment to our work that he must adhere to. Until he does, he won’t be part of the first team,” Pardew said.
Pardew added that Ben Arfa is currently not meeting these expectations and, despite suffering a recent injury, remains a part of the club. “He isn’t right now, and he got injured today, ironically, but he’s still part of our club,” the manager remarked.
Ben Arfa’s struggles at Newcastle have been well-documented, with flashes of brilliance on the pitch often overshadowed by disciplinary and attitude concerns off it. The former Lyon player’s technical ability has never been in doubt, but his lack of consistency and commitment have hampered his progress.
The coming weeks will be critical for Ben Arfa as he seeks to regain the trust of Pardew and the Newcastle coaching staff. Until then, his place in the squad remains on hold, with the manager’s message clear: professionalism is non-negotiable at St James’ Park.
