Nicolas Nkoulou’s transfer saga seems to have quieted down significantly compared to last summer. Despite strong interest from several major European clubs a year ago, the Cameroonian defender stayed put at Olympique de Marseille, largely because the club’s president refused to let him go despite attractive offers.
Speaking after OM’s friendly against Bari, Nkoulou himself shed light on his current mindset and situation:
“I’m coming back little by little, even if I still have this physical deficit. Bielsa? It’s difficult to understand him, he’s a bit of a mystery. How am I experiencing the transfer window? I’m investing like everyone else, like all the OM players, I’m working. Life has surprises in store for us, but I want to continue with OM.”
His comments were echoed by a close friend who told Le Parisien that Nkoulou “does not have his mind set on leaving.”
All signs point to Marcelo Bielsa counting on Nkoulou as an important part of his squad this season, signaling stability for the defender at Marseille for now. It looks like the Indomitable Lion is ready to continue contributing to OM’s efforts rather than seeking a move elsewhere.
