Simba SC face CAF sanctions after controversial Confederation Cup final

Tanzanian football giants Simba SC are under scrutiny from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following their loss in the CAF Confederation Cup final against Morocco champions RS Berkane.

The match, held in Zanzibar’s Aman Stadium due to the unavailability of Dar es Salaam’s national stadium, ended with Berkane securing a 3-1 aggregate victory, clinching their third Confederation Cup title.

However, the aftermath has cast a shadow over the Tanzanian side.

Reports indicate that Simba’s fans and officials attempted to confront the Mauritanian refereeing crew, led by Dahane Beida, in the arbitration room post-match.

The unrest followed contentious decisions, including the expulsion of Simba’s midfielder Yusuph Kagoma and the assistant coach.

After the match ended, security authorities and organizers intervened in the dressing room corridor to prevent the situation from escalating.

Additionally, Berkane lodged a complaint against Simba for organizational mishaps, including a prolonged delay at the airport upon their arrival.

CAF’s Competition Committee has received detailed reports and videos documenting these incidents, prompting an official investigation.

Simba now faces potential sanctions, which could impact their future in African competitions.

Meanwhile, Berkane, under Tunisian coach Moine Chaabani, celebrates a historic triumph, equaling Tunisia’s CS Sfaxien’s record for the most Confederation Cup titles.
