Mounir Obbadi Set to Join Hellas Verona on Loan From AS Monaco
Moroccan midfielder Mounir Obbadi is expected to make the move to Serie A next season, joining Hellas Verona on loan from AS Monaco, although the transfer has yet to be officially confirmed.
The 31-year-old Obbadi explained his decision to French newspaper Le Parisien, citing limited playing time at Monaco as a key factor. “I knew my playing time was going to be reduced, and since I’m a competitor, I still wanted to have fun,” he said. “I had many offers both in France and abroad. I nearly signed for Nice — we even held talks with president Jean-Pierre Rivère and coach Claude Puel — but at 31, I wanted to experience something new. Discovering Serie A was the best choice for me.”
Obbadi had a standout 2013-14 season with Monaco, where he had been a revelation since his arrival in January 2013. Trained at Paris Saint-Germain, the midfielder made his name during spells in Ligue 2 with Angers and Troyes before stepping up to the top flight.
His loan deal with Hellas Verona includes an option for the Italian club to buy him outright, giving Verona a chance to secure his services beyond the one-year agreement.
For Obbadi, the move represents both a fresh challenge and an opportunity to showcase his talents in one of Europe’s top leagues, continuing the progression of his career beyond French football.
