Luis Suárez Officially Joins FC Barcelona in €79 Million Transfer Deal
Africa Top Sports confirmed yesterday that Luis Suárez was close to joining FC Barcelona, and the move was made official this morning. According to Francefootball, the Uruguayan striker, known for his controversial “bite” incident during the World Cup, will be donning the Blaugrana colors next season.
Suárez, who arrived at Liverpool from Ajax in 2011, will be moving to the Catalan capital, conveniently close to where his in-laws reside. Catalan broadcaster TV3 reports that Barcelona and Liverpool have agreed on a transfer fee of €79 million for the striker.
FC Barcelona now reportedly expect Suárez to travel to Catalonia soon to undergo a medical examination and finalize a five-year contract with the club.
Initially, Liverpool insisted they would not sell their star player for less than €95 million. However, Suárez’s reluctance to remain at Liverpool and his clear desire to join Barcelona appear to have persuaded the Reds to accept the reduced fee. Additionally, the striker’s ongoing four-month suspension following the biting incident likely influenced Liverpool’s decision.
Barcelona’s signing of Suárez marks a major acquisition as they prepare for the upcoming season.
