Former Cameroon international Roger Milla closely monitors sports news in his country and across Africa. In an interview with mnafrica.net, the two-time African Ballon d’Or winner (1976 and 1990) expressed unwavering confidence in the national coach of the Lions, Paul Akono.
When asked about Akono’s suitability for the role, Milla responded emphatically, stating, “Of course, we must not forget that he has only taken charge of the Cameroonian selection since September last. I think that Jean Paul Akono should not be judged on a single match (editor’s note Against Cape Verde), moreover, he is the only African technician who is an Olympic champion and that is not given to everyone.”
Milla is optimistic about Cameroon’s chances of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup, asserting, “I believe we have every chance of qualifying for the World Cup. As far as the squad is concerned, the qualities are there now, and it is up to us to manage this match well. We will take a big step towards qualification if we can win.” Milla’s faith in the team’s potential reflects his belief in the capabilities of both the coach and the players.
