The Stallions of Burkina Faso showcased a dominant performance on Saturday, securing a convincing 4-0 victory against the Mena of Niger during the third day of the World Cup qualifiers for Brazil 2014 in Ouagadougou. Gernot Rhor’s team faced a formidable opponent in the unfortunate finalist of the last African Cup of Nations.
In a post-match press conference, Gernot Rohr, the coach of Niger, acknowledged the stark contrast in team strength and experience: “Today we saw a great team from Burkina Faso against a team under construction. We have rejuvenated our squad because our objective is not the World Cup but to rebuild the team in order to qualify for CAN 2015.”
Rohr recognized Burkina Faso’s confidence, noting their status as a team with exceptionally skilled players. He expressed sportsmanship by bringing a bouquet of flowers to congratulate them on their title as African vice-champions. However, he humorously mentioned that he thought the gifts would stop there, but unfortunately, they continued, notably with Burkina Faso’s scoring on the 2nd and 4th goals in the match
