South Africa Advances to Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Finals as Comoros Withdraw
South Africa’s women’s national team, Banyana Banyana, has secured their place in the final phase of the 2014 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations without needing to contest the second leg against Comoros. The Comoros team has withdrawn from the competition, with no official explanation provided for their sudden exit.
The decision comes after South Africa delivered a dominant performance in the first leg last Friday, thrashing Comoros 13-0, making it almost impossible for the island nation to advance.
With this withdrawal, South Africa now qualifies automatically for the final tournament scheduled to take place from October 11 to 25 in Namibia, where they will join six other qualifying teams and the host nation in the continent’s premier women’s football championship.
