Mohamed Salah’s difficult Chelsea days sparked his rise to Liverpool legend
Mohamed Salah has revealed how his tough start at Chelsea forced him to change everything, his mindset, body, and attitude, setting him on the path to greatness at Liverpool.
The Egyptian forward first arrived in England with Chelsea in January 2014, full of ambition but quickly met the harsh reality of Premier League football. A bruising debut against Newcastle left him wondering if he could survive at this level.
“The first thing I learnt was: ‘OK, now I have to be physically strong,’” Salah shared in a feature on Liverpool’s website. “I have to go to the gym more, recover more, adapt to the style.”
That difficult period became a key moment in his career. “When I started to struggle there, I thought: ‘OK, now what? Am I going to be a normal player or a really big player?’”
Salah didn’t back down. He studied, trained harder, and transformed. Today, with 244 goals for Liverpool, 183 of them in the Premier League, he stands as the club’s all-time top scorer in the competition.
