Zambia head coach Avram Grant has maintained that the players currently in camp should show quality, passion, and desire if they are to make his final squad for the 2023 African Cup of Nations.
The clock is ticking fast to the AFCON 2023 in Cote d’Ivoire, and Zambia are in full preparation ahead of the upcoming Africa’s biggest football tourney.
Zambia are making a return to Africa’s biggest football showpiece after missing the last three editions in 2017, 2019, and 2021.
The Chipolopolo will be making their 18th appearance at AFCON, having played sixty seven matches and recording twenty-six wins, twenty draws, and twenty-one defeats. The Chipolopolo Boys have scored 81 goals in the process.
Zambia have reached the semi-finals six times – Bronze (1982, 1990, and 1996), Silver (1974, 1994), and Gold (2012).
However, to defend this beautiful record, head coach Grant gives his verdict if the team must go far in the tournament.
Grant, in an exclusive interview, said:
“We are to turn all the players into some qualities, passion, desire, and everything for your country. We saw the 80,000 people who were happy to see us play.”
The former Chelsea, Portsmouth, and West Ham United manager spoke passionately and expressed excitement as head coach of the Zambia national team.
“I was happy more than them because they were happy, and it is a privilege for players to give my people happiness, but it comes with hard work. We are not where I want us to be, but we have done a lot of work.” He added.
