Egypt FA plots big changes for league in upcoming season

The Egyptian Football Association is setting the stage for sweeping changes in the domestic league as it calls on club leaders to shape the next season’s direction.

EFA President Hany Abou Rida has summoned the Egyptian League Clubs Association and club chairmen for a crucial meeting on Tuesday, 20 May, at the federation’s headquarters in 6th of October City.

At the center of the talks will be the structure of the competition, including the potential scrapping of relegation and the continuation of the two-phase league format used to decide the title and drop zone.

A bold proposal to increase the number of teams to 20 by inviting a Sudanese club will also be debated, a move that could help fill the current 19-team lineup.

In line with this plan, three teams will be promoted from the Second Division, while only two will be relegated from the top tier — a shift that could redefine the battle at the bottom of the table and reshape the league’s competitive balance.
