Moroccan forward Sofiane Boufal set to return to action for Union Saint-Gilloise after injury layoff

Moroccan forward Sofiane Boufal set to return to action for Union Saint-Gilloise after injury layoff

Sofiane Boufal is poised to make his return to the pitch after a lengthy injury absence, offering a welcome boost to Union Saint-Gilloise.

The Moroccan forward, who has been sidelined for several weeks due to a muscle injury, is now fully recovered and ready to rejoin his teammates in the Belgian Pro League.

Boufal’s setback began in late March 2025, when he picked up the injury that kept him out of action for over a month.

The 31-year-old’s last appearance for Union Saint-Gilloise was on March 29, 2025. Since then, the Moroccan international has been working diligently to regain his fitness and ensure a swift recovery.

Union Saint-Gilloise’s head coach has expressed his optimism about Boufal’s return, emphasizing the player’s dedication to maintaining his condition during his rehabilitation.

“He’s available to the squad, so that’s a bonus,” the coach commented. “He’s worked hard to stay fit in training, and he doesn’t seem to have lost much physical fitness. He’ll bring a creative edge to the team.”

In his first season with Union Saint-Gilloise, Boufal has featured in 24 matches, starting 14 of them.

Although he has not been able to find the back of the net during his absence, the forward has provided four assists, showcasing his ability to contribute to the team’s attacking play.

His return is expected to further bolster the squad’s creativity and offensive options.

Boufal’s current contract with Union Saint-Gilloise runs until June 2026, marking a significant period in his career as he continues to establish himself with the Belgian side.

His return to full fitness will be seen as a crucial moment in the team’s push for success as the season progresses.

With Boufal back in contention, Union Saint-Gilloise will be hopeful of his immediate impact, as the team looks to maintain momentum in the highly competitive Belgian top-flight.
