PSG confirm Achraf Hakimi to miss Montpellier clash as key players granted rest

PSG confirm Achraf Hakimi to miss Montpellier clash as key players granted rest

Achraf Hakimi will not feature in Paris Saint-Germain’s upcoming Ligue 1 fixture against Montpellier, the club has confirmed.

The Moroccan international, instrumental in PSG’s recent Champions League semi-final triumph, is among several first-team regulars who have been granted a scheduled rest period by the club’s technical staff.

The decision was officially announced by PSG on Friday, 9 May, just one day ahead of their league encounter set for Saturday, 10 May.

According to the club’s statement, the right-back is not carrying an injury but has been sidelined for recovery purposes. PSG’s medical and coaching departments have agreed on a short period of rest for Hakimi and six other squad members, all of whom played key roles in the team’s demanding campaign.

“In agreement with the sporting management and the technical staff, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Achraf Hakimi, Marquinhos, Nuno Mendes, Willian Pacho, Fabian Ruiz, and Vitinha are being rested.

They will resume team training next Wednesday,” the club announced via its official channels.

The move reflects a strategic decision by the Ligue 1 champions to prioritise freshness and physical readiness ahead of a critical period in the season.

PSG are preparing for three remaining matches, including another league fixture, the Coupe de France final, and the UEFA Champions League final — all within the next few weeks.

Hakimi, 26, has enjoyed an impressive campaign under manager Luis Enrique. In 43 starts across all competitions this season, the dynamic right-back has recorded seven goals and twelve assists, underlining his importance in both defensive duties and attacking transitions.

His pace, technical quality, and versatility have made him one of PSG’s most reliable performers throughout their domestic and European campaigns.

This is not the first time the coaching staff has opted to rest Hakimi during a congested fixture schedule. The decision to manage his workload appears to be paying dividends, as the Moroccan remains in peak condition heading into the season’s decisive phase.

With the league title already secured, PSG are expected to rotate heavily in the match against Montpellier, giving fringe players and younger squad members a chance to gain valuable minutes.

The club’s focus now clearly shifts to lifting silverware in their final two cup competitions.

Although fans may be disappointed not to see key names like Hakimi on the pitch this weekend, the broader plan suggests a calculated effort to safeguard the squad’s physical fitness and maintain momentum heading into the final stretch.

The players listed for rest are expected to return to training on Wednesday as preparations begin for the Coupe de France final. PSG’s full-strength squad will likely be restored for that clash as well as the Champions League showdown, where they will be aiming to capture Europe’s most prestigious club trophy.

For now, PSG’s coaching staff appear to be keeping one eye on the ultimate prize — and ensuring their stars are fully ready when it matters most.
