Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations Rescheduled for Early 2015
By BBC Sport Africa
The 2015 Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations has been rescheduled to take place from February 15 to March 1, 2015, after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced a change in the tournament’s dates. Originally set for May 2-16, the competition will now be played in the early months of the year, as confirmed during the CAF Executive Committee meeting held in Cairo, Egypt, on April 29-30.
The decision was made to ensure that young players compete in more favourable weather conditions, with the aim of improving the overall playing experience and player performance. The change is also seen as a measure to avoid the extreme heat that typically accompanies later months in Niger, the host nation for the tournament.
Niger will welcome teams from across the continent as they compete for the prestigious title, with the first round of the qualifiers set to begin in June 2014. The tournament will serve as a key platform for emerging African talent to showcase their skills on the international stage.
With the new dates now confirmed, teams across Africa will be preparing for what promises to be an exciting and highly anticipated edition of the U-17 competition.
