France Withdraws Euro 2020 Bid, Focuses on Euro 2016
France will no longer be bidding to host matches for Euro 2020, as confirmed by Noël Le Graët, the president of the French Football Federation (FFF), in a press conference on Friday.
Le Graët explained that the decision to withdraw from the Euro 2020 race was driven by the upcoming Euro 2016 tournament, which France is set to host. “2016 is a magnificent gift to France,” he stated, emphasizing that, in the spirit of solidarity, it was only fair to allow other European cities and countries the opportunity to host the next edition of the competition.
Euro 2020 will be a unique tournament, taking place across thirteen cities, each representing a different European nation, making it a pan-continental celebration of football. With this decision, France’s focus remains on ensuring the successful organization of Euro 2016, which will be held from June 10 to July 10, 2016.
