Vice-President of Togolese Football Federation Resigns Amid Internal Turmoil

Lomé, Togo — Turbulence within the Togolese Football Federation (FTF) has deepened following the resignation of its second vice-president, Tino Adjété, just six months before the current executive board’s term expires. His departure signals growing discontent over the body’s leadership and may pave the way for his own bid for the FTF presidency.

In a strongly worded resignation letter addressed to FTF president Gabriel Améyi, Adjété expressed disillusionment with the leadership’s direction over the past four years. “The hope for the recovery of Togolese football… quickly dissolved in the particular exercise that you have made of your responsibility,” he wrote, highlighting what he described as “constant deterioration of practices” and a lack of integrity in the federation’s management.

Adjété, who also serves as president of second division club Tigre Noir Zéphyr, had ceased attending executive board meetings for months. His public dissatisfaction with Améyi’s unilateral decision-making style has long hinted at internal divisions. His responsibilities had included overseeing Ethics, Fair Play, Marketing, and Television operations within the FTF—areas in which he claims to have witnessed severe mismanagement.

Citing the need for “transparency and competence,” Adjété called for a new vision for Togolese football. He stated, “We must escape this fatal logic that is stifling it… the sound management of Togolese football for the benefit of young people becomes a duty.”

His departure adds to mounting pressure on the current FTF leadership. First vice-president Hervé Piza has also publicly criticized operational dysfunction within the federation.

Observers believe Adjété’s resignation may be the first step toward a presidential run in the next election cycle. Long rumored to harbor leadership ambitions, his latest move could be part of a broader strategy to position himself as a reform candidate amid public discontent.

The FTF has not yet issued an official response to the resignation.
