Achraf Zouhair Dari’s injury spoiled what should have been a fresh start for Al Ahly under interim coach Emad El Nahhas.
The Moroccan defender limped off late in the first half of their 3-2 victory over Petrojet at the Military College Stadium in Cairo on Wednesday night.
Dari pulled up with a back muscle injury in the 44th minute and was replaced by Yasser Ibrahim, raising immediate concerns over his availability for upcoming matches. He is expected to undergo tests to determine the extent of the injury.
Al Ahly had made a strong start in this third-round Egyptian League clash, with Wissam Abu Ali and Amr Al Soliah finding the net in the 10th and 15th minutes. But Petrojet hit back just before halftime through Rashad El Metwally’s penalty and Emmanuel Laki’s strike.
Nejc Gradisar sealed the win for Al Ahly with a composed finish in the 63rd minute. While the result brought three points, the focus will now shift to Dari’s fitness and how his absence could impact the team’s stability in defense.
