The Tunisian Football Federation (FTF) has confirmed that both the 2021-2022 and 2024-2025 editions of the Tunisian Super Cup will now be contested at the beginning of the next season.
The 2021-2022 Super Cup, originally set to take place in February, had been delayed following a request from CS Sfaxien, the holders of the Tunisian Cup at the time.
The club was then engaged in the CAF Confederation Cup, leading to the postponement of the match against league champions ES Tunis.
While the 2023-2024 Super Cup proceeded as planned, taking place on 16 February with ES Tunis defeating Stade Tunisien to lift the trophy, the earlier 2021-2022 edition remained unscheduled.
The FTF has now decided that this long-delayed fixture will finally be played at the beginning of the 2025-2026 season.
In addition to the rescheduling of the 2021-2022 match, the federation has also announced that the 2024-2025 edition of the Super Cup will be held during the same period.
This decision means fans can expect a packed calendar at the start of next season, with two Super Cup finals featuring some of Tunisia’s top clubs.
The 2021-2022 clash will see ES Tunis, winners of the Tunisian Ligue 1, face off against CS Sfaxien, who claimed the Tunisian Cup title during that campaign.
Meanwhile, the teams for the 2024-2025 Super Cup will be confirmed once the current season’s league and cup competitions conclude.
The FTF’s move aims to maintain the competitive prestige of the Super Cup while accommodating the congested schedules of clubs involved in continental tournaments.
Holding both editions at the start of the new season is expected to reignite enthusiasm among supporters and add an extra dimension to the upcoming domestic campaign.
This decision highlights the ongoing challenges faced by domestic football bodies in balancing local competitions with the demands of African club tournaments, a dynamic that continues to shape football calendars across the continent.
Further details, including the exact dates and venues for both Super Cup matches, are expected to be announced by the FTF in the coming months as preparations for the new season advance.
