Mohamed Abdelmonem battles early challenges at Nice and dreams of World Cup glory

Mohamed Abdelmonem

Mohamed Abdelmonem is determined to turn a tough start in France into a success story.

The Egyptian defender, who joined Nice this season from Al Ahly, admitted that adapting to life at the club was not easy at first. A mix of language barriers and a different environment made the transition harder.

Recently, Abdelmonem also suffered a cruciate ligament injury during a league match against Paris Saint-Germain. Speaking on TV, he said he pushed himself to adapt quickly through hard training and staying focused.

He hopes Nice can secure a top-four finish in the French league, noting how strong and competitive the teams are. Abdelmonem praised Al Ahly for shaping him into the player he is today, saying his move to France would not have been possible without them.

Turning to the Egyptian national team, he applauded the efforts of coach Hossam Hassan and the leadership of Hani Aboureda.

“Hossam Hassan, the head coach of the Egyptian national team, is making great efforts and achieving good results in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers as well as qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations,” he said.

“In the last African Cup of Nations, we played against teams that some people thought were easy, such as Cape Verde, but on the ground it was different,”

He believes Egypt’s squad, led by stars like Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush, can aim high at the Africa Cup of Nations and in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, stressing that nothing is guaranteed yet.
