Guinea U17 Women’s team misses out on World Cup qualification despite victory over Ivory Coast

Guinea’s U17 women’s team saw their World Cup hopes fade despite a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Côte d’Ivoire in the return leg of their World Cup qualifying match.

Held in Bamako, Mali, this Friday, the result was not enough to overcome the deficit from the first leg, where they had lost 1-0.

The young Guinean side fought valiantly, managing to score two goals and push for a place in the 2025 U17 Women’s World Cup.

However, the aggregate score of 2-2 was not in their favour, with the Ivorian team advancing due to an away goal advantage.

In what was a dramatic encounter, Guinea came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory, but their earlier loss left them with too much ground to make up.

Despite showing resilience and determination, the aggregate score left the Guinean team just short, ending their World Cup aspirations for this cycle.

For Guinea’s U17 women, the match was a bittersweet reminder of the challenges they face on the international stage.

While the team’s performance was commendable, it was not enough to propel them to the next stage.

Their hopes now turn to future competitions, including the Africa Cup of Nations, where they will look to make their mark in the years to come.

The Ivorian team, meanwhile, will progress to the next phase and continue their preparations for the World Cup, securing a significant milestone in their footballing history.
