South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns line up high-profile pre-Club World Cup friendly against Benfica

South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns have lined up a high-profile pre-Club World Cup friendly match against Portuguese giants Benfica.

Sundowns are one of the four African teams expected to participate in the expanded FIFA Club competition to be staged in America in June 2025.

The South African outfit joined Esperance, Al Ahly, and Wydad Casablanca as the four African teams to feature at the tournament.

The much-anticipated preparatory match is scheduled to take place in the USA. Meanwhile, the date for the match remains unconfirmed. The FIFA Club World Cup will run from June 15 to July 13, 2025 in the North American country.

Sundowns are paired in Group F and will compete with Fluminense (Brazil), Borussia Dortmund (Germany) and Ulsan HD (South Korea).

It’s one of the toughest groups in the competition and testing themselves against Benfica could offer invaluable insights and tactical fine tuning.
