Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has highlighted Al Ahly’s defensive abilities following stalemate in the first leg of the CAF Champions League semifinals.
The South African giants played out a 0-0 draw against the Egyptian powerhouse on Saturday, making the return fixture in Cairo a tough one.
The return leg promises to be a thrilling one as both teams will be yearning for victory to book a place in the final.
Speaking after the game, Cardoso highlighted Al Ahly’s defensive approach for the stalemate.
“It’s important to understand that not conceding is always very important in this kind of matches, of course scoring is also very important. We got one objective, we didn’t get the second one”
“I think first half was better than second one, we played more in trying to achieve it but I think that everybody understood that the positioning from Ahly on the pitch is very tough one, use four centre-backs, defending with a line of six most of the time, so very deep” he added.
Al Ahly will play host to Sundowns at the Cairo International Stadium on April 25, 2025.
