Aymen El-Ramady, the head coach of Ceramica Cleopatra, expressed his dismay over numerous missed opportunities by his team against Pyramids in the third-place match of the Egyptian Super Cup for Champions Clubs.
Pyramids secured the third position and the bronze medal for the Egyptian Super Cup for Champions Clubs by defeating Ceramica Cleopatra 5-4 in a penalty shootout after the original time ended in a 1-1 draw.
The match featured a moment that will be etched in the minds of Egyptian football enthusiasts and the global football community after Ahmed Yasser Rayan’s inexplicable miss.
During the press conference, Aymen El-Ramady remarked, “Luck eluded us significantly in the game, and opportunities that were squandered don’t go unnoticed in training.”
He added, “This tournament showcased many positives and some negatives, and we need to work more to rectify things.”
El-Ramady continued, “During the game, there was an exaggeration in wasting chances, not due to recklessness or a lack of skill, but this is something destined, 100%.”
“We hoped to reach the final, and I am proud of my team despite us outperforming Pyramids in the second half with the return of their key players,” he emphasized.
He concluded, “Pyramids scored from their first opportunity, and I have not seen a match with this quantity of missed opportunities.”
The teams settled for a penalty shootout with each team taking five penalties, this time following the previous marathon between Pyramids and Modern Future, which lasted for 34 penalty kicks.
Pyramids will receive a prize of $75,000, while Ceramica will take home $50,000, the monetary awards for the championship.
