Carney Chukwuemeka might be on the verge of a breakout moment as Borussia Dortmund prepares to face FC Barcelona in the Champions League on Wednesday.
The Catalans, led by Hansi Flick, have been in top form this season, while Dortmund, managed by Niko Kovac, are still tinkering to find their rhythm.
Kovac has been shaking things up, giving fresh faces a shot at glory. Chukwuemeka seized his opportunity in a recent match against Freiburg, earning his first start for BVB and delivering with a goal and a spirited attacking display. The young star’s performance clearly caught his manager’s attention.
“Carney played 70 minutes and did it very well. I think he can play from the start tomorrow,” said Niko Kovac.
“I will not reveal whether he will do this. We took some time with him. He now tolerates it and can help us with his quality.”
With Dortmund searching for consistency, Chukwuemeka could be the spark they need against a formidable Barcelona side.
