The national coach, Walid Regragui, revealed that Ayoub El Amrani was part of the final squad initially summoned for the Africa Cup in Ivory Coast.
However, an injury sustained during the recent match against Hassania Agadir will keep him out for two weeks.
Regragui stated, “El Amrani was on the list, but the injury he suffered in the Hassania Agadir match puts us in doubt about his readiness.
Consequently, El Shebby was found ready, having experience with Brambados and knowledge of African conditions.”
The national coach emphasized that sentiment plays no role in his selections, especially in determining the final squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.
Regragui expressed, “I don’t know the sentiment, and I don’t have it in my choices.
Proof of this is that 11 players who participated in the Qatar 2022 World Cup are absent from the current list.
What matters to me is that the players are in full readiness for the Africa Cup.”
Regarding the team’s participation in the Africa Cup of Nations, Regragui mentioned that the national team would strive to defend its chances in the Ivory Coast.
He affirmed, “Whether we achieve it or not, the important thing is that we are fully prepared to honor Moroccan football and delight the Moroccan fans.
Thank God we have full confidence in the players to deliver a great performance, as they did in the Qatar World Cup.”
