‘I could have done better’ – O’Neill criticizes Danish-Nigerian Patrick Dorgu following Forest defeat
Manchester United full-back Patrick Dorgu was heavily criticized by Forest legend Martin O’Neill following United’s 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Tuesday evening.
O’Neill singled out the Danish international of Nigerian descent million signing for his lackluster performance during the match, where former United player Anthony Elanga scored the only goal to inflict United’s 13th Premier League loss this season.
O’Neill did not hold back in his assessment of Dorgu, who was making just his seventh appearance for United since joining from Lecce.
The 73-year-old was particularly scathing, claiming that the young winger’s contribution was minimal, especially in an attacking sense.
“They had Dorgu playing tonight,” O’Neill said. “I could have done what he did! He’s wide left-hand side, he’s got the ball and you’re saying: ‘Come on! Your job is to take players on. Get at them!’
“He’s laid it inside three times in the first 10 minutes of the second half… to the opposition!
“Maybe it’s no confidence, I don’t know what it is. But these type of things are all over the field for Manchester United.”
United, now 13th in the table, will need significant improvements to avoid further embarrassment as they prepare to face Manchester City in the upcoming derby.
