Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has confirmed that no discussions have taken place over a new contract, despite recent transfer speculation linking him with Arsenal and Liverpool.
The Swedish forward, who has Eritrean roots, has been a key player for Newcastle since joining from Real Sociedad in 2022.
His impressive performances have attracted interest from top Premier League clubs, but he remains focused on the current season.
Speaking about Newcastle’s recent Carabao Cup success, Isak expressed his belief in the club’s potential.
“This club can achieve great things. I think we should really look at it one season at a time, and this season we can win a trophy, which would be amazing for everyone,” he said.
Regarding his future, the 25-year-old insisted that he is not distracted by transfer rumours. “It’s nothing I really think about. I’ve said many times during the season that my focus is on my job. Right now is probably the worst time to think about anything else.”
When asked specifically about a contract extension, Isak confirmed that no talks have taken place yet but admitted discussions could happen in the future.
“I’ve said I’m not really thinking about the summer, but yes, that’ll probably be a talking point once the season is finished.
“We will really see because no talks have been held yet.”
Newcastle are eager to keep Isak at the club, as he has been instrumental in their attacking play. However, with growing interest from rivals, the Magpies may need to offer him an improved contract to secure his long-term future.
