Girona have secured the long-term future of Mali international Ibrahima Kebe after the midfielder signed a contract extension until 2026, it was announced on Tuesday.
The new deal ends speculation over the 23-year-old’s future, with several clubs rumoured to be interested in a loan move for the talented young player in the January transfer window.
Kebe has been regaining match fitness in recent weeks after finally overcoming a serious knee injury that had kept him sidelined for almost a year.
Now back to full health, a temporary switch in the New Year could provide the first-team football Kebe needs to continue his development.
Although Girona are keen to keep hold of a player they believe can be a key figure at the club for years to come.
A product of Girona’s youth academy, Kebe has already amassed 68 appearances for the Catalan side across La Liga, promotion playoffs and cup competitions.
Capped at U23 level by Mali, the versatile midfielder will be hopeful of adding to that tally in the second half of the season at Estadi Montilivi or elsewhere.
Either way, by committing to fresh terms until 2026, Kebe has demonstrated his strong affinity with Girona despite outside interest in his signature.
Securing Kebe’s long-term future will come as a major boost to manager Michel Sanchez as he aims to guide Girona back to Spain’s top flight following their relegation last term.
