Koundé and Yamal back Ratiu signing as Barcelona seek right-back solution

Barcelona have set their sights on strengthening their squad for the 2025/26 season, with Rayo Vallecano’s Andrei Ratiu emerging as a key target.

Reports from El Nacional indicate that the Romanian right-back has received the backing of both Lamine Yamal (of Equatorial Guinea and Moroccan descent) and Jules Koundé (of Beninese descent), who believe his arrival would bolster the team’s defensive options.

The Catalan giants have struggled to find a permanent solution at right-back in recent seasons, often relying on Koundé to fill the role despite his natural position being in central defense.

While Koundé has performed admirably, head coach Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco are keen on bringing in a specialist to address the issue.

Ratiu, known for his speed, defensive reliability, and ability to contribute in attack, is seen as a strong candidate for the position.

Ratiu’s contract includes a €25 million release clause, making the move financially viable for Barcelona. His signing would not only provide much-needed depth but also allow Koundé to operate more frequently in central defense.

Yamal, one of Barcelona’s brightest young talents, also supports the move, recognizing that a dynamic full-back on the right side would complement his attacking style and provide greater width in play.

Barcelona’s squad has faced challenges with squad rotation this season, exposing the need for reinforcements in key positions.

With support from both players and management, Ratiu has emerged as a priority signing for the summer.
