In a pulsating 2026 World Cup qualifier at Stade de Kégué on March 22, 2025, Togo and Mauritania battled to a 2-2 draw in Group B.
Togo struck first, with Thibault Klidje heading in a Youssifou Atté cross in the 4th minute. Mauritania responded after the break, as Aboubakary Koïta leveled the score in the 52nd minute, followed by Abdallahi Mahmoud’s strike in the 55th to take a 2-1 lead.
Togo fought very hard to get back into the game. FC Cincinnati forward Kevin Denkey scored in the 69th minute to secure a point. Both sides showcased attacking flair in the game. Togo had a lot of possession but defensive lapses kept the game level.
