Riyad Mahrez etched his name in Algerian football history by earning his 100th international cap in the Fennecs’ 3-1 victory over Botswana in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The 33-year-old winger became just the fourth player to achieve this milestone for Algeria, joining Aïssa Mandi (103 caps), Islam Slimani (102 caps), and legendary playmaker Lakhdar Belloumi (100 caps).

The accomplishment highlights a decade of dedication to the national team since his debut in 2014.

Mahrez, who started on the right wing under coach Vladimir Petković, played a crucial role in the win.

While not at his most influential, he contributed to Algeria’s opening goal, delivering a key pass to Hicham Boudaoui, whose cross was met by Amine Gouiri for his first international strike.

The Al-Ahli winger’s experience proved invaluable in securing an important result for his side.

The victory sees Algeria reclaim top spot in Group G with 12 points, level with Mozambique but ahead on goal difference.

With a pivotal match against Mozambique looming at the Hocine Aït-Ahmed Stadium in Tizi Ouzou, the Fennecs remain in a strong position as they push for World Cup qualification.

Mahrez’s century of appearances cements his status as one of Algeria’s greatest players.

In addition to this latest milestone, his international career is defined by major achievements, including captaining the side to Africa Cup of Nations glory in 2019.

As he continues his journey with the national team, he will be eager to inspire Algeria toward another World Cup appearance in 2026.

Nimes midfielder Komlan Amewou is approaching the new Ligue 2 season with renewed optimism after a frustrating last campaign at the club. In an exclusive interview, the Togo international said he has a point to prove this term after struggling for game time under former coach Thierry Froger. “I feel good compared to last year when I played very little and the coach had very little confidence in me,” the 28-year-old told AfricaSoccer.com. “Today, I have all the cards in hand to prove my talent. It was up to me to show him and everyone else that I was better than that.” Amewou believes new manager Victor Zvunka, who returned

Ayoub El Kaabi stuns with spectacular bicycle kick as Morocco defeat Benin in Fez

Ayoub El Kaabi delivered a moment of individual brilliance on Monday evening as Morocco claimed a 1-0 victory over Benin in an international friendly held in Fez. The Olympiakos forward scored the only goal of the match in breathtaking fashion just minutes before half-time. Latching onto a long diagonal pass from defender Adam Masina, El Kaabi positioned himself expertly before executing a perfectly timed bicycle kick, sending the ball soaring past Benin goalkeeper Marcel Dandjinou, who could do little more than watch it sail into the net. The goal, captured on video and widely circulated on social media, quickly gained viral attention, with fans and pundits alike praising the technique,

Olympique de Marseille are set to revive their pursuit of Brighton and Hove Albion winger Simon Adingra, with the Ligue 1 club preparing a renewed approach ahead of the summer transfer window. Walid Regragui hits back at critics after Morocco edge Benin in Fez

Morocco ended their June international training camp with a narrow 1-0 win over Benin in Fez on Monday, a result that may not have dazzled but was enough for head coach Walid Regragui to deliver a strong response to recent criticism of his team’s performances. Speaking at a post-match press conference at the Fez Sports Complex, Regragui addressed concerns surrounding the team’s level of play, openly acknowledging the lack of sparkle in their latest outing but defending the result and the context in which it was achieved. “I won’t lie. Today wasn’t our best game,” he admitted. “But we still managed to win. It wasn’t about tactics or strategy. It’s
