Lamine Camara warns against underestimating Sudan ahead of World Cup qualifier

Lamine Camara warns against underestimating Sudan ahead of World Cup qualifier

Senegal midfielder Lamine Camara has emphasized the importance of his team’s upcoming clash against Sudan, urging focus and determination as the Lions prepare for Matchday 5 of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Speaking at a press conference, Camara highlighted the high stakes of the encounter, stressing that the team is fully committed to securing a positive result.

“Everyone knows that this is a very important match for us, so we take it as it should be, very seriously. We know that Sudan has its players, but I also think we have good players, we have confidence in our group. It’s a match that we take very seriously, like all the other matches. We will try to win to take an option on qualification. Our objective is to win all the matches and we are focused on that,” he stated.

Respect for Sudan’s challenge

While many observers expect Senegal to dominate the match, Camara dismissed any notion of complacency, acknowledging the strength of their opponents.

“We do not underestimate our opponents, even if everyone thinks Senegal will win. It will not be an easy match. Sudan will also play to win.”

His caution is well-founded, given that Sudan currently leads Group B with 10 points, while Senegal trails closely behind in second place with 8 points.

A win for the Lions would see them leapfrog their opponents to claim the top spot in the standings.

With qualification for the 2026 World Cup on the line, Senegal will need to deliver a strong performance to boost their chances of advancing.

The stage is set for a high-stakes encounter, where both teams will be looking to assert their dominance in the group.
