The head coach of Stade Tunisien, Maher Kanzari, is close to becoming the new manager of Espérance Sportive de Tunis.
According to Tunisian radio station Diwan on Saturday, Espérance’s management has reached an agreement with Kanzari to replace Romanian coach Laurențiu Reghecampf. Talks were recently held to terminate Reghecampf’s contract by mutual consent.
Kanzari has impressed this season with Stade Tunisien, leading them to sixth place in the Tunisian Ligue Professionnelle 1.
His performances have caught the attention of Espérance, who are looking for a new coach to guide them through the remainder of the season.
Espérance currently sits second in the league with 53 points, level with leaders US Monastir but trailing on goal difference.
With five matches left in the campaign, the club hopes a change in leadership will boost their chances of securing the title.
Reghecampf leaves Espérance after managing 23 matches in all competitions. Under his leadership, the team won 15 games, drew six—including a recent 2-2 result against Shabiba Al Omran—and suffered only two defeats.
