Benin faces a challenging journey to Algiers on March 26 for the 2014 World Cup qualifiers. Coach Manuel Amoros, in an interview with MNAFRICA, believes that the pressure is on the Algerian side, despite Benin being considered an outsider.
Amoros states, “Despite its first place in the group ranking, Benin remains an outsider. The pressure is on the side of the Algerians and Malians (favorites of the group). We, on the other hand, will do everything to remain leader, and we have assets to assert and we will assert them in the matches that remain to be played.”
He acknowledges Algeria’s strong player pool, particularly with players spread across Europe, and anticipates a different performance from them compared to the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN). Amoros emphasizes the need for Benin to prepare well for the upcoming match and demonstrate their capacity to stay at the top of the group.
“The Algerian selection has interesting players who are there to bring something extra; we must not give them the opportunity to express themselves. It’s up to us to prepare well for this meeting and, above all, to show that we have the capacity to stay at the head of the group.”
