Diego Maradona has clarified that there has been no contact from Montpellier regarding his potential role as the successor to René Girard, despite media reports. Louis Nicollin, the president of Montpellier, is reportedly interested in meeting Maradona next week to discuss the possibility.
Younes Bouklit, the director of the sports marketing and event organization agency SGM Agency, which manages Maradona’s interests, emphasized that there has been no contact between Montpellier and Maradona. He stated that Maradona has not received any specific offer from Montpellier and has no interest in coaching a Ligue 1 club.
In response to this, Louis Nicollin confirmed that there might be a meeting with Maradona and his impresario on Monday for an initial contact. However, he mentioned that it’s not yet 100% confirmed. Nicollin expressed his frustration with the ongoing managerial search, stating that he has given until Monday to secure a reliable replacement for Girard. He emphasized that there are other options to consider if Maradona does not respond promptly.
The situation suggests ongoing negotiations and discussions between Montpellier and potential managerial candidates, with Maradona being one of the figures under consideration.
